Business is a Game – PLAY IT!

October 5, 2011

Monopoly, by the fun people at Parker Bros., has been turned into a thousand different versions since it hit the market in 1924. Produced in hundreds of different languages, it has been changed for Star Wars, different cities, cartoons, TV shows and just about everything else, so why not create one for your own company? Sure, there’s some copyright issues, but the spoofing law allows some leeway and as a holiday promotional gift, who’s to say Fender Guitar-opoly or Mexican Restaurant-opoly isn’t just plain fun?

Just think of the “Chance” and “Community Chest” cards one can come up with in planning a game your clients and prospects can play at lunch or with family? Because only an idiot would spend their hard-earned pass-Go money on those lousy utilities, why not come up with something that actually pays? Hey…that’s Life?

Come up with some rules that present players with some Risk! Create a virtual Candyland of delight and joy with your logo all over the place. A great promotion is no Trivial Pursuit when it comes to something people will talk about for years. When it comes to word of mouth advertising, you’ll have a Monopoly in your industry.

So, give us a call and let R and R Images take a Mystery Date and turn it into a deadline and we’ll create a package that will have hours of fun…ours and yours!

Power posters!

September 16, 2011

The New York International Latino Film Festival (NYILFF) is attracting attention with these posters. Anyone that’s seen a few movies in their lives will start to see narrative patterns repeating themselves, and these brightly colored posters satirize the clichés with hilarious truth.

One of the NYILFF ads shows a target practice chart with only one bullet nicking the shoulder of a human figure while a barrage of bullets surrounds the chart. The caption on the chart reads, “Villain’s accuracy against the hero in a movie,” perfectly expressing movie watchers’ frustration with film protagonists seemingly always facing incompetent marksmen. If you think about it, remember when Obi-wan Kenobi tells Luke that the blast points on the Jawa’s sand crawler are “too accurate for sand people” and could “only be made by storm troopers?”

Well, the storm troopers, as accurate as they were regarded to be, couldn’t come near hitting the side of a Millennium Falcon when shooting at a man, boy, princess and a couple of droids when it came time to prove their marksmanship!

Humor is a great way to reach customers and prospects. Whether it’s on a large format mural, a direct mailing or a promotional desk calendar for your business, R and R Images can give you the best printing and service and hit the target better than, dare we say… an accurate storm trooper? May the force of great printing be with you!

Putting our wall to good use

June 8, 2011

If you’ve been to our offices recently, you’ve certainly noticed our new mural along the west wall of the building! We created and installed it not only to add our personality to the building, but to highlight our design and printing expertise.

The mural was designed by our in-house creative team and was printed on our HP DesignJet 10000 large format printers using General Formulations Concept 201HTAP adhesive vinyl film. We printed a total of 20 panels to span the entire 65 1/2 foot width of the mural. During installation, the panels were carefully overlapped in order to create the seamless 6 foot tall image you now see.

We’re proud of the work our creative and large format printing teams put into bring the mural project to fruition. Next time you come to see us, take a look and let us know what you think!

A ninja, a dominatrix and a weather girl. What do they have in common?

September 27, 2010

Keith Forsten saved brother's life.

Embarking upon the adoption of a new company philosophy that helps each employee to create the ideal workplace, getting to know everyone a little bit better sounded like a grand idea. Each employee received an email asking them to divulge something we didn’t already know about them. The responses were absolute ambrosia and here are a few of those little morsels:

  • I am a Ninja.
  • I have a twin sister.
  • I was a Dominatrix for 7 years and did some corset modeling.
  • I can’t eat Chicken McNuggets until I’ve eaten all the skin first.
  • I wrote cue cards for Bob Hope.
  • I was a weather girl on television.
  • I owned a graphic design company.

While most responses were single sentences, here’s a short story that Keith Forsten contributed.

Keith's plaque.

“When I was 12,  my brother was mowing the lawn and ran over an old clothesline that got wrapped around the blade. My brother, the rocket scientist, thought it would be a good idea to tip the gas mower over and burn the clothesline off. When I saw that he was fully engulfed in flames, I grabbed the garden hose and drenched him with water until the flames were gone, saving his life. He had third degree burns, but he was alive. The fire department gave me a special plaque and the local newspaper published a photo of me accepting the award.  The not so great part of the story is that the next year I was playing with matches and burned down a huge tree in the front yard.I had to apologize to the local fire department.”

Keith brought the plaque and the newspaper clipping from his deed of bravery and quick thinking for everyone to see.  Try to stay away from those matches, Keith and thanks for sharing. Thanks to all who contributed. It was fun to learn more about the people we spend a third of our life with!

Find the Easter egg in YouTube videos

July 27, 2010

Find the Easter egg!

YouTube users can unlock a secret game by pausing the video and pressing the up and left arrows simultaneously on their numeric keypad.

The caveats are that it only works on the new YouTube video player that was introduced in April and the video can’t be more than three months old.

The game only appears on the YouTube site itself, not in embedded videos on other sites.

We thought you might have some fun with this…a little Internet magic!

The ten most addictive sounds in the world?

May 12, 2010

Does sound have an alignment with consumer behavior? Online branding guru Martin Lindstrom thinks so. Marketers depend upon the sense of sight in advertising, often neglecting the power of sound.  Using neuroscience to help fine tune advertising strategies makes sense, according to Lindstrom.

Lindstrom and sound-identity company Elias Arts gathered 50 volunteers to measure facial, pupil and brain-wave responses to certain sounds.  Their responses help marketers better understand what consumers respond to most, which can ultimately assist in more strategic advertising plans.

While Lindstrom produced a top ten list of branded and one for non-branded sounds, here’s a blend of each that will resonate with just about anyone:

  1. Baby’s giggle
  2. Intel’s bong
  3. Vibrating phone
  4. Cash register ring
  5. National Geographic theme
  6. MTV theme
  7. T-Mobile ringtone
  8. McDonald’s theme
  9. Star Spangled Banner
  10. State Farm theme

Can you hear them now?

The Little Black Hen

March 3, 2009

An inspirational sales message from Rob Seaver,
VP Strategic Marketing, R and R Images

Said the little red rooster, “Gosh all hemlock. Things are tough
Seems worms are getting scarcer, and I cannot find enough.
What’s become of all those fat ones is a mystery to me;
There were thousands through that rainy spell – now where can they all be?”

The Old Black Hen who heard him didn’t grumble or complain,
She had gone through lots of dry spells, she had lived through floods of rain,
So she flew upon the grindstone, and she gave her claws a whet,
As she said “I’ve never seen the time that there weren’t worms to get.”
She picked a new and un-dug spot; the earth was hard and firm.
The little rooster jeered, “New hard ground? That’s no place for a worm!”
The Old Black Hen just spread her feel, and she dug both fast and free…
“I must go to the worms,” she said, “the worms won’t come to me.”

The rooster vainly spent his day, through habit, by the ways
Where fat round worms had passed in squads back in the rainy days.
When nightfall found him supper-less, he growled in accents rough,
“I’m as hungry as a fowl can be. Conditions sure are tough.”
He turned to the Old Black Hen and said, “It’s even worse with you.
For you’re not only hungry, but you must be tired too.
I rested while I watched for worms, so I feel fairly pert;
But how are you? Without worms too? And after all that work?”

The Old Black Hen hopped to her perch and drooped her eyes to sleep,
And murmured in a drowsy tone, “Young man, hear this and weep:
I’m full of worms and happy, for I’ve dined both long and well.
The worms are there as always – but I had to dig like hell!”

Oh, here and there red roosters still, are holding sales positions.
They cannot do much business now because of ‘poor conditions’,
But soon as ‘things’ get right again, they’ll sell a hundred firms —
Meanwhile the old black hens are out and gobbling up the worms.

At R and R Images, Inc. we truly take this message to heart, and dig like hell. Whether its in taking care of a client or researching and implementing the latest technology or leading the pack we do it all with a ton of hard work and determination.
